Antrim community rallies around family after man dies in workplace incident

A community in Co Antrim is rallying around the family of a man who died after a ‘workplace incident’.

John Traynor, from Ballycastle, died following the incident on Knockagh Road in Carrickfergus on Wednesday morning.

In a Facebook post, IJ Lynn & Sons Ltd said: “This is the hardest post I have ever written. Today we lost our esteemed colleague John Traynor in a tragic accident on site, Belfast Live reports

“As a family, we are devastated by this loss and we send our prayers and deepest condolences to John’s family. He will be greatly missed by us and his co-workers.

“John was a pleasure to work with, always positive and enthusiastic. May he rest in peace. Thank you to everyone who rushed to the aid of John at the scene today and especially the emergency services who visited the scene.”

Police say his death is not being considered suspicious and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified.

SDLP councilor Margaret Anne McKillop offered her condolences to the Traynor family.

Councilor McKillop said: ‘I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of a local man in an accident in Carrickfergus on Wednesday morning. This man was from the Ballycastle area and was well known locally. My thoughts are with his family and friends after receiving this heartbreaking news and my thoughts are with them.

“I am sure the community of Ballycastle will support this man’s family in the difficult days, weeks and months ahead and I would ask them to rally around them and help in any way they can, while giving an appropriate space to mourn. “

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: “HSENI is aware of a workplace incident in the Carrickfergus region this morning and find out.
