Ambassador Degnan: I am very happy to be here for the graduation of the weeklong Women in Law Enforcement Conference here in Georgia. This conference brings together American and Georgian law enforcement professionals to improve capacity, build capacity and explore more leadership opportunities for women in law enforcement. Police officers here in Georgia play a role of vital importance to the peace, safety and security of the streets of Georgia. They give law enforcement a special set of skills that no one else can, especially in investigations involving very sensitive situations. Women officers bring a special set of skills which are very important to the investigation, but also to creating an environment of trust and confidence in responding to crime here. I think we’ve seen, study after study, that societies that allow women to participate fully in society, including law enforcement and security, are more productive, more successful economically and politically, and are more stable. So this is something that the United States in general, but certainly the United States Embassy here in Tbilisi, is very proud to support – this annual conference to help female police officers in Georgia reach their full potential by helping to George’s safety. Thank you.
