Targeted killings are Pakistan’s ploy to ‘vilify’ majority community in Kashmir: BJP

Majid Kapra

SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused Pakistan of killing people from the valley’s minority community for the sole purpose of “defaming” the majority community in India and around the world.
Admitting targeted killings of members of minority communities as a major cause of concern for the security establishment and society, the party accused the neighboring country of creating an atmosphere in which Kashmiris would be blamed for supporting violence.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, party spokesman Altaf Thakur, while condemning the killings at the hands of “hybrid terrorists”, said such acts are aimed at creating an atmosphere of hostility in the valley.
“The sole purpose of Pakistan, which apparently could not absorb peace and development in the valley, is to defame the majority community in India and the world,” Thakur said.
Thakur also lambasted opposition parties, including the Gupkar Alliance, for allegedly glorifying terrorists and their acts of violence. He said endless peace will prevail in Kashmir once opposition parties stop participating and shedding crocodile tears over the funerals of terrorists.
“Targeted killings are a concern for both the security establishment and society, we admit. But a common Kashmiri has never been in favor of violence, instead people here want to live a peaceful life and want the age-old philosophy of communal brotherhood to be upheld at all costs,” he said. added.
